The SCILS Group teaching
and coaching focuses on mutual understanding of the vision, ideals,
values and goals. Having established this mutual understanding,
we work to develop a plan for sustainable change, and
we support development of that change.
Coaching is based on beliefs that
all people have the ability to grow and be the person or organization
they dream of. A coaching
relationship provides the stimulus for growth, offering
objectivity and a safe place to gain confidence with new approaches
and behaviors. The coaching process identifies strengths and
develops awareness of overused and ineffective patterns. The
focus is on learning to flexibly adjust styles as needed,
resulting in increased effectiveness and confidence.
We encourage peer mentoring and coaching with all stakeholders as
a practice that encourages openness, bonding and greater community.
As a result we believe our work is to work ourselves out of work
by strengthening relationships based on trust and skills.
Parent to Parent Coaching can
be used to develop community and sharing. Parent partners are shown
how to listen, observe and reflect. Most importantly they believe
in each other and their children as being capable equal members
of the community.
Parent Mentors guide from their
own experience in a specific situation. Parent
Mentors offer support to each other by guiding through a situation
with which the mentor has gained a level of success, experience
or proficiency.
