The SCILS Groups recognizes
that Inclusion offers students a chance to learn, grow, and become
valued members of the school community. We believe by having typical
classes available for all students with expertise provided to support
teachers and staff students can grow and learn side-by-side their
peers.
Our prior experience as Teachers and a Head of School for twenty
years with inclusion has demonstrated that all students benefit-not
only students with disabilities, but all students. The goal is
to provide all students with what they need to be a successful
members of each class and create a school culture where acceptance
of each person’s diverse learning style is accepted, thereby
creating a learning community for all.
Successful inclusion has happened and is possible
in all neighborhood schools – however it takes a shared commitment
by all stakeholders to make it work.
